Position Overview:
Agwrx Cooperative is seeking an experienced and motivated Grain Merchandiser to join our team. This role is vital to managing grain origination, customer relationships, and commodity marketing strategies that serve our local producer base. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in grain merchandising and a well-rounded background in agriculture.
- Originate grain from local producers and establish strong, trust-based relationships.
- Develop and execute merchandising strategies for corn, soybeans, wheat, and other commodities.
- Analyze markets and basis levels to determine optimal timing for purchases and sales.
- Work closely with farmers to provide risk management solutions, such as forward contracts, hedge-to-arrive (HTAs), and basis contracts.
- Monitor and manage position limits, risk exposure, and hedge accounts in coordination with internal policies.
- Coordinate logistics for grain shipments, including scheduling, freight, and delivery compliance.
- Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., accounting, operations, and grain elevator staff) to ensure efficient grain handling and settlement processes.
- Stay current with market trends, USDA reports, and global economic factors that influence grain pricing and movement.
- Represent the cooperative at producer meetings, trade shows, and community ag events.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in grain merchandising or commodity marketing.
- Strong knowledge of grain markets, futures trading, and agricultural economics.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with producers and industry partners.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with grain accounting systems and risk management platforms (e.g., DTN, Barchart, AgVision, or similar).
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Bachelor's degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, or related field preferred, but equivalent experience considered.
