HISTORY

Our History | Agwrx Cooperative

Agwrx Cooperative was formed on January 1, 2020, through the strategic merger of two established farm cooperatives: Farm Country Cooperative (FCC) and Watertown Cooperative. Although Agwrx is a relatively new name, our legacy in serving South Dakota’s agricultural communities spans over a century.

Deep Roots in South Dakota Agriculture

The origins of Agwrx Cooperative trace back to 1908 with Wallace Elevator, which expanded in the early 1990s by acquiring Garden City Cooperative. This growth led to the creation of Farm Country Cooperative (FCC) in 2011, providing critical agronomy, grain, and feed services.

Founded in 1941, Watertown Cooperative expanded through acquisitions of local cooperatives across Webster, Henry, Kranzburg, Grover, Bruce, and Waubay. After merging with Clark County Farmers Elevator in 2019, Watertown Cooperative joined FCC in 2020, forming Agwrx Cooperative — a leading agriculture cooperative in Northeastern South Dakota.

In 2023, Agwrx Cooperative further expanded by uniting with AgFirst Farmers Cooperative, enabling us to serve additional communities including Aurora, Toronto, Volga, and Brookings.

Investing in Modern Agriculture and Rural Communities

At Agwrx Cooperative, our mission is to empower member-owners by investing in people, technology, and infrastructure designed to meet the evolving demands of modern farming.

Key Capital Investments Include:

  • Wallace Fertilizer Plant (2016): A state-of-the-art fertilizer facility enhancing production efficiency and supply reliability.

  • CHS Joint Venture (2012): Partnered with CHS to operate a 36,000-ton fertilizer plant in Watertown, supporting regional fertilizer needs.

  • Watertown Grain Train Loader (2014): High-capacity grain train loader boosting grain marketing and export capabilities.

Committed to Growth and Innovation

Agwrx Cooperative remains focused on innovation and growth, investing in advanced tools and infrastructure to help farmers and producers thrive in South Dakota’s competitive agriculture market. Our cooperative continues to strengthen rural communities by delivering dependable agronomy, grain, feed, energy, and automotive solutions.
